Battle of Saint-Lô
19 July 1944

Early in the morning, approximately 3000 airplanes bombarded the city of Saint-Lô. The bombardment caused the city to be completely covered in debris, dust, and smoke. Soldiers around this sector called it “the capital of ruins." Yet the Germans didn’t give up the city without a fight.
